The Second Chance Bird was a Chinese junk being used by by Arab pirates until it was captured and given its new name by Swedish sailors marooned on the island of Mauritius. Much to her own shock, up-timer Pam Miller was chosen as the new captain of the junk which was soon called the Second Chance Bird. (One of the goals of the Mauritius expedition was to give the dodo a chance of survival.) Miller and the ship would soon go on to play a vital role in securing Mauritius as a Swedish colony.
