According to Shimotsuki Nakatomi, the origins of the clan is unknown. In the sense, that even the elders are unsure which of Kaname and Takeko's kids the clan originated from. Regardless of this, they refer to all of them collectively as the Eight Pillars (八天柱,Yatenchū) of the clan. While they refer to Kaname and Takeko as the Thrones (位,Kurai Lit; Crowns). The clan itself rules over the kingdom of Takamagahara, who are in turned is governed by a council know as the Twelve Saints (十二聖者, Jūnisan). Stated by Shimotsuki, the twelve are stated to be the strongest of the clan.
