The 48th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment raised in Virginia for service in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. It fought mostly with the Army of Northern Virginia. The 48th Virginia, organized at Big Spring, near Abingdon, Virginia, in September 1861, contained men from Scott, Washington, Smyth, Lee, and Russell counties. It fought in Jackson's Valley Campaign and later was assigned to General J.R. Jones' and William Terry's Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia.
