Deepcore is a submersible loosely based on the Deep Core rig from the film The Abyss. It's mission is scientific rather than oil drilling. Deepcore has an unstreamlined hull. It pushes itself slowly along the seabed using its ducted propellers, supported by (unpowered) tracks. It can also be assist-towed by a flatbed submersible. It is connected to a surface vessel via an umbilical. This provides telecommunications and auxiliary air supply (for life support and for the diesel engine.) In the rear of Deepcore is a core sample drilling rig. Machinery moves extracted cores to the cargo hold.
