Not to be confused with USS Admiral E. W. Eberle (AP-123). USS Eberle (DD-430) was a Gleaves-class destroyer of the United States Navy. The ship is named for Rear Admiral Edward Walter Eberle, who commanded the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets and was Chief of Naval Operations from 1923 to 1927. Eberle was launched 14 September 1940 by Bath Iron Works Corp., Bath, Maine; sponsored by Miss Mildred Eberle, granddaughter of Rear Admiral Eberle; and commissioned 4 December 1940, Lieutenant Commander E. R. Gardner, Jr., in command.
