Neuromuscular adaptation was a type of therapy which was designed to allow species from low-gravity planets to function in a normal gravity environment. Although the procedure was initially developed by Nathaniel Teros in the 2340s, Doctor Julian Bashir refined the therapy in 2370, when he was asked by Ensign Melora Pazlar, a native of Gemworld, to perform the therapy on her. After several treatments, however, she decided not to proceed through any more as it meant that she could never return home. (DS9 episode: "Melora"; TNG novel: Gemworld, Book One, TTN novel: Taking Wing)
