Shim'ali, or the Western movement of Islam in the Pure Arabica universe, arose as Latin Rite Catholicism was subjugated to Islam. After a few hundred years, this form of Islam had small minorities across the Middle East and majorities in Europe, with the exception of Southern Iberia.
