The Winter of the Deep Drifts is the season in which Methuselah found and rescued a wounded sparrowhawk who talked to sparrows and found out information regarding the possible location of the Sword of Martin. This season occurred four years before the Summer of the Late Rose and the events of Redwall, during the Year of the Small Sweet Chestnut.
