Neither Ryan Island or Coffee Pot Island are depicted by on the 1841 map by Charles Wilkes, of the U.S. Exploring Expedition. The 1948 NOAA Nautical Chart #6152, "Harrington Point to Crims Island", has only the label "marsh" on Ryan Island, and Coffee Pot Island is unnamed. Later charts list Coffee Pot Island as "Sand I.". The name Coffee Pot Island appears on the 1982 NOAA Nautical Chart, however the name Ryan Island does not. The 1985 Chart has both names.
