The Atlantean army or Eastern Iberian army was the central military body of the Atlantean (pre-Diadochian) armed forces, serving alongside the Atlantean navy. The Atlantean army was the direct descendant of the Iberian army and made use of similar military discipline, strategy and organization. While the earlier Iberian army had depended heavily on the legion system by the early 7th century it had disappeared as the army's cavalry arm became more prominent. Later military reforms reflected Frankish/Germanic and Oriental influences. In the succeeding centuries a significant portion of the army was made up of foreign mercenaries that met the empire's demand for light cavalry.
