Wyrfen Wood is the wild woodland separating Forst Reach from central Valdemar. At one time it was permeated by magic, but the Tayledras drained it long ago. In Herald-Mage Vanyel's time, there was still enough residual magic to "make anyone marginally sensitive uneasy. Animals felt it certainly, birds were few, and seldom sang..." (Magic's Price) The wood was generally avoided by any save woodcutters. Travelers passing through the wood stayed on the road running through its center. Along that road, in the middle of the wood, was the Halfway Inn. The pun was intentional.
