Founded in the wake of the Spine Insurgence and the capturing of not one but two of the Archons of the Convocation of Elrendar, the Crimson Hand, named after Kael'thas' closest circle of servants, were created so as to avoid any further such incidents from occuring. Numbering only a close group of followers that accompanied the Convocation to Pandaria, they form the backbone of their military aid to the Horde.
