Not much was known about Max Shreck's late wife, but it was implied in Batman Returns that Max may have killed her possibly as a means of getting a hold of her money (since it was suggested that Max was a self-made man, and may therefore have needed a 'leg-up' in getting on top of the corporate ladder).
