Wolfgang of Dalberg (1538 - 1601) was the Archbishop of Mainz from 1582 until 1601. Wolfgang was a son of Frederick of Dalberg, a treasurer of Worms. He was elected the Archbishop of Mainz in 1582 defeating Julius Echter of Mespelbrunn, Bishop of Würzburg. During his reign Wolfgang did little to encourage the Counter-Reformation, and he was suspected of conspiring with the Lutherans. He constructed for himself new Baroque residences in Mainz and Hanau-Steinheim, which nearly bankrupted the archdiocese. Wolfgang died in Mainz in 1601.
