The party was formed when, angered by Mezzileen's continued abuse of power, numerous influential figures from across the galaxy formed the party to challenge Republic rule. In an attempt to topple Mezzileen's government, they started riots across numerous worlds but each was thwarted by either the Jedi or Mezzileen's soldiers. However, after Mezzileen had many people arrested on Coruscant following a riot, the Jedi Order split with the Republic and fled to Ossus where they were trapped by Mezzileen's forces. The Democratic Republican Party organized a fleet of ships that broke the blockade and they joined the Jedi Coalition in the fight against Mezzileen.
