Alan Beaks (1958-1988) was the son of a former Florida Lieutenant Governor and a Southern heiress. Beaks began his life in the church, at 12 he was an altar boy for Bishop Roger O'Halleron, then a Merit Scholar at 18. In 1986 he was arrested for the rape of Ellen Mason, a case worked by Metro-Dade Detective Trudy Joplin. Later convicted and sentenced to three years in jail, but was released after 20 months for good behavior, having expanded the prison library and founded a prison choir. Beaks appeared on The Murray Phillips Show to tell his side of the story, to confront the DA Freida Lewis who felt he was released too soon, and to call his rape victim, Ellen Mason, to publicly apologize, but she refused to answer the call, which prompted Beaks to call her after the show (in a harassing ma
