The Altyr Ardor was a dual-fold lightsaber crystal found in the Altyr system, that allowed its owner to change the color of their lightsaber blade, using a small clasp on the Hilt. Since it was much more elementary than acquiring or constructing a synthetic lightsaber crystal, the Jedi often used the Altyr Ardor for illicit operations involving Sith or Dark Jedi.
