MasterHarper of Pern is a biographical novel about MasterHarper Robinton. The book opens up with his birth, and finishes with day in which F'lar dueled with, and killed, Fax. Its end overlaps with Dragonflight and Renegades of Pern. It is the only novel to take place entirely during the Second Long Interval.
