Von ter Horst was trained as a skilled security officer, with high marks for skills at marksmanship, security procedures and unarmed personal combat. Besides these skills, von ter Horst was also knowledgeable in environmental suit/zero gravity operations, and was passed as a certified shuttlecraft helmsman and computer operator.
