West of Porirua's CBD is a hill, or the remains of one. Beginning in 1971, much of that hill was removed and deposited in the south-west corner of the harbour, where it now supports a MegaCentre and the Whitireia Polytechnic. The purpose of the earthmoving was Todd Park, originally a motor assembly plant. As Nevil Gibson said in the National Business Review (Feb 24, 2006): * The creation of Porirua's Todd Park by New Zealand's richest family, the Todds, in its day was an achievement unrivalled in New Zealand history. He was reviewing the latest book by Titahi Bay photographer Neil Penman.
