Hardy Norville Revelle (1838-1893) was a dry-goods merchant. He participated in the defense of Fort Pillow. After the fort fell, Revelle had some of the goods in his care confiscated by Colonel Robert McCulloch's surgeon F.R. Durrett and ordinance officer, J.S. Hay. He kept a watch on the goods that belonged to his employer, and was very nearly executed for pilfering. However, he was able to convince General Nathan Bedford Forrest that he legitimately controlled the property in his possession.
