The birth control rune is a new form of contraceptive among Shadowhunters, created by Clary Fairchild—the only Shadowhunter able to "create" runes. It was initially controversial but has since become one of the most-used runes. The rune's effectiveness lasts about three months, much like birth control shots among mundanes.
