Strictly speaking, the failure to pay a court fine is regarded as "contempt of court" because you have failed to obey an order given directly by the court. "Contempt of court" can certainly result in a jail sentence. However generally, failure to pay a court fine will usually result in an additional fine being added to the original fine.
