Highway 22 begins at the Canada-United States border in a place known as Paterson. It continues south into the states as Washington State Route 25. Highway 22 starts off by going north to Rossland, where it merges onto Highway 3B. The two highways then travel together east through Warbeck to Trail, where Highway 3B diverges west to Shavers Bench and Highway 22 continues northward to Genelle. From Genelle, Highway 22 proceeds north through Blueberry Creek and Kinnaird to its ending at Highway 3 in Castlegar.
