The assault began as planned, with the Republic fleet attacking the amassed Imperial fleet and the ground forces being able to land on the surface of Dromund Kaas. The Republic Navy slowly gained the advantage by destroying many of the Imperial dreadnaughts, allowing the fleet to provide assistance to its ground troops. Meanwhile, on the ground, Republic troopers fought in close quarters combat on the streets of Kaas City. Jedi and Sith clashed in lightsaber duels, with the Republic troops eventually reaching the Imperial Citadel. After most of the Sith leaders were slain (with a few exceptions, such as Darth Nox) and the Imperial supreme commander, General Arkos Rakton, was killed, the remaining Imperial troops were defeated.
