Dr Edwards was the hospital surgeon who operated on Renee Roberts when she was brought in as a serious casualty case after the car she was driving was rammed by a speeding lorry in July 1980. The doctor broke the news to husband Alf that despite their best efforts Renee had died due to a ruptured spleen and liver.
