Rekelen was a female Cardassian in the 24th century, who was a university student and dissident in 2370 when he was forced to flee Cardassia Prime with his professor, Natima Lang, and her colleague, Hogue. They traveled to Deep Space 9, and with the assistance of Lang's former lover, Quark, and the former Obsidian Order agent Elim Garak, escaped the pursuit of the Cardassian government.
