The Federal Corporation was established by the New Federation of Independent Worlds in 17 BBY in order to administer former corporate properties of private business interests affiliated with the now-defunct Confederacy of Independent Systems. It was legally owned by 235 individuals who had been executives or shareholders in the former CIS corporations.
