The Backfiring Jinx (incantation unknown) was a jinx of unknown effect. In July 1996, the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects got wind of a "nasty" example of this jinx in Elephant and Castle, but it was sorted out by the Magical Law Enforcement Patrol before they arrived on the scene.
