Carlos Aveline started his training in 1991 with Walter Mattos & Mario Sperry. Walter & Sperry were both helicopter pilots and both trained at Carlson Gracie School the infamous ARREBENTACAO, meaning destruction in portugese. Walter was a black belt and Sperry only a purple belt at the time. Walter approached Sperry, being jiu jitsu & helicopter buddies, and talked about opening up a school in Porto Alegre, which is a place where very rich and powerful people in Brazil live.
