Samuel Williams was an early member of the church mentioned in the Doctrine and Covenants. He was born March 22, 1789, in Russell, Massachusetts. Williams was living in Kirtland when the saints began to arrive. He converted to the Church and followed a group to Missouri. His time there was brief, as he was forced to flee the state on account of the religious persecution. He lived in Nauvoo, and there he was called to be a counselor to John Hicks in the Nauvoo Elder's Quorum Presidency[1] When Hicks later apostatized from the church, Samuel filled his place as elder's quorum president. Williams left Nauvoo with main body of the church and moved to Winter Quarters, where he would live until 1849. He died in Ogden, Utah, on November 10, 1855.
