The paragravitic drive was a type of propulsion technology used for sub-light-speeds. It could accelerate a starship from orbit to light-speed. Orions surpassed the impulse engine to develop the paragravitic drive during the New Days, at the height of their civilization (56 BCE to 1003 BCE, or reference stardates −20/56 to −10/03). However, they lost the knowledge of it during the Reverse that decimated their civilization, as records and ships were destroyed.
