Rachel Comstock was one of the three widows that haunted Widows' Hill, she was said to be the first to die off the hill. She was the wife of a fisherman. Her husband and 5 sons died at sea. She is known to have said, "The sea is my grave, my grave is the sea." Elizabeth Collins Stoddard mentioned her, along with the other two widows, whilst contemplating suicide. Legend has it that the widows, the other two being Abigail Tolliver and Margaret Findley, were waiting for a fourth victim to join them. (266)
