Hubert St. John is a professor visiting Mayberry to present a series of lectures. Despite Clara Edwards interest in him, he develops great affection for Aunt Bee Taylor because of her resemblance to his late wife. Fearing that a marriage proposal is in the works, Aunt Bee devises a scheme to end their romance. He is portrayed by actor Edward Andrews.
