The Weatherfield Majestic was a theatre/club specialising mainly in variety acts. Alec Gilroy honed his craft as a talent scout there, with a job backstage in the 1950s and 60s, supplying everything from bird impersonators to women who tore up telephone books. It was also there that Alec met his future wife, Joyce Crosby, when she assisted her father Harry backstage when he played the musical saw.
