The limbic system is a set of structures in the brain that control and process emotion, behavior, motivation, long term memory and smell. It consists of the hippocampus, amygdalae, anterior thalmic nuclei, septum pellucidum, limbic lobe and fornix. It also plays a role in sexual arousal and the "high" experienced by the use of certain drugs.
