The Great Ambush was a small Varden offensive against the Empire's forces prior to the Rider War. The attack resulted in the total destruction of three Imperial brigades. Though the battle had little strategic importance, it would alter the course of the war, because it was the event that forced Murtagh to leave Urû'baen as he finally realised that Galbatorix wasn't the kind visionary he had seen before.
