More than 400,000 people are on dialysis and the number is estimated to more than double in the next decade. Dialysis is a method of removing toxic substances (impurities or wastes) from the blood when the kidneys are unable to do so. This paper will inform you about the two types of dialysis treatment, the complications associated with dialysis, and the reasons why people choose to stop treatment. There are two types of dialysis: peritoneal and hemodialysis. Complications may be related to dialysis or the underlying kidney disease itself.
