The EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate, known as Imperial escort frigates or Nebs, was a 300-meter long warship introduced into the Imperial Navy by Kuat Drive Yards as an anti-starfighter escort ship due to the high amount Rebel and pirate attacks on Imperial shipping that damaged or destroyed numerous ships. However, it would also be used by the Alliance Fleet, which ended up with several of these ships in their hands. It would serve as the basis for the larger EF78 Nebulon-B2 Heavy Frigate of the Alliance Fleet.
