The cottage was almost buried in snow once, but luckily Thomas, Toby and Terence came to help clear the snow away. Some illustrations of the south side of the tunnel usually don't show the cottage. In the 1999 magazine story, Brave Thomas, a fire started to spread in a nearby field close to the cottage, but luckily, Thomas helped the firemen to stop the fire from spreading.
