As a result of consisting of most area surrounding the Adriatic Sea, the Adriatic Republic boasts a wide range of languages and cultures. In 1918 as a result of a merge of the Kingdom of Serbia, the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs and the Kingdom of Italy, the Adriatic Republic was formed. The Kingdom of Serbia and Kingdom of Italy wanted to overthrow their respective monarchies, whilst the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, as an unrecognized state, decided to join the new sovereign state that almost completely surrounded it.
