The Persian Empire ruled over the Middle East from 648–330 BC. Persia, under Cyrus the Great, conquered Babylon in 539 BC. The Book of Esther and part of the Book of Daniel are set in Persia. The Book of Ezra and the Book of Nehemiah are set in and near Jerusalem during the period of Persian rule. Persia was conquered by Alexander the Great in 330BC.
