Sir John Garfield, later Baron Garfield (1803-1878) was a British-born Georgeland politician in Georgeland's colonial period. Born in Exeter in 1806, Garfield was educated at Cambridge in the 1830s and became a barrister. He was appointed to the bar in 1836. In 1845, at the behest of the British government, Garfield was sent to Georgeland, then a British colony, to take up the position of Secretary to the Governor, which he held from 1845 until 1857 under Governors Leicester and Whitley. He recieved a knighthood in 1854. In 1857 he was elected to the Colonial Assembly and served as the colony's Minister for Trade and Railways from 1860 to 1869.
