Palamedes was the master of the Augean Stables. Despite their differences in class, he was a great friend to King Augeus. Palamedes helped guide Augeus through his mental difficulties. When Augeus was given the powers of a god by Hera and accidentally killed Palamedes, Aphrodite placed an aura around him that kept his spirit from leaving the body for one day. This was enough time for Hercules to save him. Palamedes had a daughter named Melanippe. Both he and Melanippe were devoted worshippers of Aphrodite.
