The city-state of Ithaca, named for the Greek island of Ithaca, was a city-state located near the border between the former states of New York and Pennsylvania. It merged with Binghamton to form the Republic of New York in 2010. It was best known for being home to Cornell University, an Ivy League school with almost 5,000 students (most of them studying on Cornell’s Ithaca campus).
