198 Eridani is a star that formerly possessed an associated star system, located in the space of the galaxy's Beta Quadrant, in the general vicinity of 88 Eridani. Thousands of years ago, 198 Eridani was observed by the ancient Vulcan civilization as a type K orange star, part of what is visible from Earth as the constellation of Eridanus. At some point, 198 Eridani collapsed into a black hole, unbeknownst to the Vulcans. As the first star targeted in the colonial expedition known as the Sundering, the Vulcans were caught off guard by the black hole's gravity and Pennon, Starcatcher, Bloodwing, Forge, Lost Road, Lance, and Blacklight were lost here.
