Carl and Declan are father and son. Although overall having a good relationship, Declan is spiteful of his family's misfortunes. Just before Carl Porter died, Declan told him that he hates him, thus triggering the heart attack that killed him. Declan is somehow guilty about how things went down, but nonetheless does not join his brother, Jack, as he scatters their father's ashes across the sea.
