In 1994, Kondo submitted a proposal to the International Astronomical Union for the naming of a Martian crater after Gene Roddenberry. He was co-sponsored by Carl Sagan and Arthur C. Clarke. The proposal was accepted and Roddenberry Crater was duly approved.
