Clerics were the human priests belonging to the Knights of Byzantium. A pair, nicknamed Heckle and Jeckle by Willow Rosenberg, joined the Knights during their persecution of the Scooby Gang and were called by Dante to bring down the energy barrier created by Willow. Using prayer beads and an unknown incantation, they worked as a pair to destroy the wall. Whether or not they could actually destroy the wall was unknown, as they were shown to be unsuccessful, and were later killed by Glory, although Willow expressed that the pair could shorten the barrier's duration.
