The Yippies was a New Left organisation, albeit loosely organised, that flourished in the late 1960s and early 1970s, mainly in the USA where it was founded. On December 31, 1967 at the New York loft of Abbie Hoffman (1936 - 1989), activists resolved to hold a Festival of Life during the 1968 Democratic Party Chicago Convention, or 'Convention of Death' as many radicals named it.
